From a Tech Novice to a Software Engineer
Warihana, the founder of Saafea Tech Hub had her first encounter with a computer when she had the golden opportunity to study at Ashesi University under the MCF scholarship. It was a major struggle because her colleagues from better schools and backgrounds were already familiar with the computer.
She grew to love computers, majored in Management Information Systems, and became a software Engineer. She is motivated to use her IT skills to ensure other students from the north have a different experience. The goal is to ensure that every student has the basic IT skills before entry into a tertiary institution and that more students, especially girls, study computer science-related courses. We also want to help individuals gain employable IT skills.
Long-term Goal - Poverty Reduction
In Northern Ghana, limited access to technology education creates a cycle of poverty, with many encountering computers for the first time at university level. Saafea Tech Hub breaks this cycle by providing accessible technology education to diverse groups – from first-time computer users to professionals. By equipping individuals, especially those from underserved communities and women, with digital skills, we create pathways to economic opportunities and sustainable livelihoods.
